What is this Volunteer Program?
The “Tourism Industry Plastic Reduction Volunteering” program empowers international volunteers to help Sri Lanka’s tourism and hospitality industry move toward sustainability.
As one of the most beautiful and eco-sensitive islands in the world, Sri Lanka depends heavily on tourism — but with it comes the challenge of plastic pollution.
Volunteers will work with multiple hotels, eco-lodges, and tourism establishments to raise awareness about single-use plastic, encourage eco-friendly alternatives, and inspire collective action for a cleaner planet.
Through practical engagement, education, and teamwork, you’ll help hospitality professionals understand the problem, explore solutions, and take visible steps toward sustainable operations.
This program supports SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 14 (Life Below Water) by addressing waste reduction and sustainable practices within one of Sri Lanka’s largest industries.
Upon completion, each volunteer receives a recognized Volunteer Certificate from Volunteers Global, acknowledging their contribution to responsible tourism and sustainability.
